Terms of Service
Last updated: 2 August 2026
These terms govern your use of Fred, a WhatsApp assistant for family admin operated by Crox. By subscribing to Fred or messaging it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
1. What Fred is
Fred is an AI assistant that helps you organise family admin over WhatsApp — tracking tasks and reminders, reading the school letters, PDFs, photos and voice notes you send it, and, if you connect Google, watching email from the specific sender addresses you choose and helping with your calendar. It is provided for your convenience, not as a professional service.
2. Who can use it
You must be 18 or older and using Fred for your own family. One subscription covers your household — you can invite other adults in your family to the same account. Don't use Fred on someone else's behalf without their knowledge.
3. Subscription, trial & billing
- Fred costs £14.99 per month. Your first 30 days are free; you add a payment card when you sign up, and the first charge happens only when the free trial ends.
- Billing is handled by Stripe, our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details.
- The subscription renews monthly until you cancel. You can cancel at any time — use the manage-subscription link Fred gives you (or ask Fred for it). Cancel during the free trial and you pay nothing at all.
- If you cancel after a charge, your access continues to the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give partial refunds for unused time unless the law requires it.
- If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it and we'll let you know. If it keeps failing, your subscription ends and the "Ending use" section below applies.
- If we ever change the price, we'll give you clear notice in the chat first — the new price only applies from your next renewal after that notice.
- Some early pilot families use Fred on a free plan we've given them; these terms apply to them too, minus the payment parts.
None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law, including any cancellation rights that can't be excluded.
4. Fair use & usage limits
Fred is for one household's ordinary personal family admin. To keep the service reliable and sustainable for everyone, we apply reasonable fair-use limits on how much a single account can use it. Normal family use is nowhere near these limits — they're there to catch runaway, automated, or abusive activity, not everyday parents.
- If an account's usage is unusually heavy, automated, bulk, or otherwise well beyond normal personal use, Fred may temporarily pause or slow its responses for that account — normally until the limit resets. We'll say so in the chat when it happens.
- Please don't resell or share your access, query Fred automatically or in bulk, or use it as a general-purpose bot rather than for your own family's admin.
- We may adjust these limits over time as we learn what normal use looks like. We'll give you notice before any change that would materially restrict normal use, and where we can we'll offer a way to keep going if you genuinely need more.
5. Fred is an AI — it can be wrong
Fred is under active development. It may occasionally be unavailable, change, or make mistakes. Fred is an AI and can be wrong. Always check anything important yourself — dates, deadlines, what to bring, appointments. Don't rely on Fred as your only record for anything that matters.
6. Not professional advice
Fred does not provide medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and nothing it says should be treated as such. For those, consult a qualified professional.
7. Your responsibilities
- Share only information you're entitled to share, including about other family members.
- Keep your WhatsApp account secure — anyone with access to it can message Fred as you.
- Use Fred lawfully, within the fair-use limits above, and don't try to misuse, overload, or probe the service.
- If you connect Google, you confirm you're authorised to grant that access.
- Only invite people to your family account who should see your family's information — everyone in the account shares its tasks, calendar view and details.
8. Privacy & your data
How we handle your information is described in our Privacy Policy. You can ask Fred to delete your data at any time, and disconnect Google whenever you like. If your subscription ends, we delete your family's data 60 days later (we'll warn you first) unless you resubscribe or ask us to delete it sooner.
9. Third-party services
Fred relies on WhatsApp/Meta (messaging), Anthropic (the AI), Stripe (payments), OpenAI (voice-note transcription) and, optionally, Google (calendar and email). Your use of those services is also subject to their own terms, and we're not responsible for them.
10. Ending use
You can stop using Fred at any time — cancel your subscription and, if you like, ask Fred to delete your data straight away. We may suspend or end your access for serious or repeated breach of these terms, for non-payment, or where necessary to protect users or the service; if we end the service itself we'll give you reasonable notice and refund any unused paid time.
11. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Crox isn't liable for losses arising from your use of Fred — for example, a missed reminder or an error in what Fred tells you — and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud), or your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Changes & governing law
We may update these terms as Fred develops and will tell you in the chat before material changes take effect; if you don't agree with a change you can cancel before it applies. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
